Contrastive Reasoning for the Semantic Web

چکیده
The sentences “but” are used frequently in natural languages. However, the semantics of “but” has not yet been well studied in logic and reasoning. Contrastive reasoning is the reasoning with contrasts which are expressed as contrary conjunctions like the word ”but” in natural language. Contrastive answers are more informative for reasoning with inconsistent ontologies, as compared with the usual simple Boolean answer, i.e., either ”yes” or ”no”. In this paper, we propose a general framework of contrastive reasoning, and a method of computing contrastive answers from inconsistent ontologies. The proposed approach has been implemented in the system CRION (Contrastive Reasoning with Inconsistent ONtologies) as a reasoning plug-in in the LarKC platform, a platform for scalable semantic data processing. We report several experiments in which we apply the CRION system to some realistic ontologies. The evaluation of CRION shows that contrastive reasoning is a useful extension to the existing approaches of reasoning with inconsistent ontologies. This paper is an extension version of the [12]. AHP Techniques for Trust Evaluation in Semantic Web
The increasing reliance on information gathered from the web and other internet technologies raise the issue of trust. Through the development of semantic Web, One major difficulty is that, by its very nature, the semantic web is a large, uncensored system to which anyone may contribute. This raises the question of how much credence to give each resource. Each user knows the trustworthiness of ...
متن کاملA procedure for Web Service Selection Using WS-Policy Semantic Matching
In general, Policy-based approaches play an important role in the management of web services, for instance, in the choice of semantic web service and quality of services (QoS) in particular. The present research work illustrates a procedure for the web service selection among functionality similar web services based on WS-Policy semantic matching. In this study, the procedure of WS-Policy publi...
متن کاملTowards a Contrastive Pragmatic Analysis of Congratulation Speech Act in Persian and English
This paper aims at studying the speech act of congratulation in Persian and English with regard to semantic formulas. To gather the semantic formulas related to congratulation, the researchers chose 100 movies (50 in Persian and 50 in English) as the instrument of the study. The only model of cross-cultural comparison was related to that of Elwood (2004). Therefore, we used Elwood’s model as th...

متن کاملA Contrastive Study of Request Speech Act in English and Persian Novels: Natural Semantic Metalanguage Approach
The Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) Approach claims that there are some universalities in all languages. Speech acts seem to be present in all languages, but considering this approach, research has not indicated whether request speech act differs from one language to another. Thus, this study intended to investigate whether request strategies are used differently in English and Persian roma...
